Website: Wossy Book Club
Brief
The Wossy Book Club is Jonathan Ross’ Twitter-based book club. It started out on Twitter but very quickly 140 characters proved not to be enough to get across a lengthy book review. The site was designed to build on top of Twitter, rather than entirely replacing it, to allow for the lengthier book review and conversation.
Solution
Currently the site works in the method of a forum, where users are able to start conversations as topics and discuss their points and opinions with other users. Threaded replies allow users to leave messages for other users which can be read easily and a notification system allows users to keep on top of what’s going on. The site uses the Twitter API for logon and publishing, so that reviews are still tweeted and contribute to wider conversation.
Result
The site has been rapidly developed and updated in response to feedback, maintaining the experience and utility of the site. With hundreds of active users the site is designed to be highly scalable and robust, maintaing security during peak times as well as rapidly generating content. Deep integration with Twitter continues the book club experience across social media, whilst allowing users to post thorough reviews.
